15 Tips to improve profile discovery on LI

Recently, I have read the book ‘Linked’ from Omar Garriott and Jeremy Schifeling on audible. The audio book is 7 hours long. If you dont’ have time or need a brief summary, read on.
- Upload a profile picture on LI. Add a background if you have preference
- Specify the location of your target city. Even if you current don’t live, that’s OK
- Fill in the about section with brief summary of skills and achievements, 4–5 lines should do it
- In the experience section, describe the impacts and learnings you had in your current job/school
- If actively looking, turn on the ‘open to work’ option
- Connect with the recruiters in you target companies and cities
- Add all the schools you have attended
- Take the advantage of alumni network
- Join the groups of your job interests
- Leverage first and second level connections for a referral. Referrals have 150% more chance of getting the initial call
- Follow the people who are work in the industry you are looking to get a job
- Connect [Send a connection request] with people who have similar jobs that you are looking If you look up their profile and they might in turn look you up
- Check LI couple of times a day so that algorithm can recognize and update feeds multiple times a day
- Add all certifications
- Take courses offered on LI and complete the assessments. LI will include them in your profile and surface for recruiters and hiring manager while searching for specific skills
